Everyone is familiar with Philippe Duchemin’s talent and his stylistic lineage tracing back to Oscar Peterson; his trio serves as a tribute to the late Canadian pianist.

The inspired touch lies in the repertoire—a musical portrait of the great pianist—which comprises both original pieces by Duchemin and compositions by Peterson. Fittingly, Duchemin’s own works allude to the signature pianistic traits of the man who was a permanent fixture on the JATP piano stool. Particularly welcome are the pieces referencing Bach (Oscar wrote several tributes to the composer) or Chopin (*Ballade en Pologne*), all delivered with just the right touch of humor. The piano-bass-drums lineup lends the ensemble remarkable rhythmic fluidity.

PHILIPPE DUCHEMIN - PIANO

Born in Toulouse in 1957, he began studying classical piano at the age of nine. At fifteen, he decided to turn toward a "more vibrant" style of music: jazz. Largely self-taught, he spent eight years mastering the music of his idols—such as Fats Waller, Erroll Garner, and Oscar Peterson.
Philippe Duchemin made his international debut at twenty-three, performing regularly in major Parisian clubs and playing piano in various ensembles.
He played alongside drummer Kenny Clarke in the "Jazz en Liberté" group.
He served as the pianist for the Franco-Spanish ensemble "Paris Barcelona."
He has accompanied trombonist François Guin and vibraphonist Dany Doriz.
He was the bandleader for Spanky Wilson for three years.

Philippe Duchemin has also accompanied some of the greatest jazz musicians, including Lionel Hampton, Ray Brown, Scott Hamilton, Duffy Jackson, Red Holloway, Alvin Queen, Joe Newman, Benny Powell, Irvin Stokes, Deborah Brown, Marcel Azzola, Chuck Green, and Bob Wilber.

CHRISTOPHE LE VAN - CONTREBASSE

Born on December 29, 1959 in Marseille into a family of musicians, he began playing the double bass at an early age, performing alongside his twin brother on drums and his father on piano. He turned professional at the age of 24 after completing his dental studies. Together with his brother, Christophe accompanied visiting American jazz musicians.
He moved to Paris in 1987 following a six-month tour with the Gérard Badini and Michel Leeb Big Band.
He has performed at various festivals and concerts with artists such as Terry Clarke, Tommy Flanagan, Horace Parlan, John Hendricks, Didier Lockwood, Lee Konitz, Sonny Grey, Christian Escoudé, Chris Woods, Peter King, Bobby Porcelli, Michel Perez, Michel Legrand, Johnny Griffin, Ray Charles, Sonny Stitt, Eric Lelan, Joe Newman, Art Farmer, Chet Baker, Joe Durio, and Dee Dee Bridgewater.

PHILIPPE LE VAN - BATTERIE

Born on December 29, 1959, in Marseille, he comes from a family of musicians. After studying piano, he turned to the drums and began performing with his father (a pianist) and his brother (a double bassist). A professional since 1985, Philippe regularly accompanies major names in jazz and Brazilian music. He accompanied Tigran Hamasyan when the latter won first prize at the Antibes International Young Talent Competition in April 2003.

He is a co-founder of the Brazilian group Bossazina, with which he has performed at events such as the Saint-Louis Jazz Festival in Senegal.
